Cheyenne, WY (KGWN)- Lani Malmberg has the pleasure of spending her days with more than 200 hairier than usual city employees.
“So what this herd is, is 40 thousand pounds of living energy, they’re alive as opposed to machinery and chemicals,” said Malmberg.
She began Goat Green, LLC after completing graduate school with a master’s in weed science.
“I started it as an alternative and I read about how well goats eat weeds in the literature when i was in grad school,” said Malmberg.
And she now helps the city of Cheyenne with the help of some furry friends, keeping the open spaces along Dry Creek well maintained.
“The goats are doing twelve things at the same time: fertilizing, irrigating, recycling, aerating the soil, packing the seedbed, preparing the seedbed, fire mitigation,” said Malmberg.
Giving the city a great alternative to mechanics and chemical treatment.
“It’s a very economic and very environmentally sound way to control the vegetation growth,” said Sam Berta, staff engineer for the city of Cheyenne.
All while providing entertainment to the residents of Cheyenne.
“There are hundreds of people that come to the Greenway and see the goats and enjoy watching and interacting with the goats on a daily basis,” said Berta.
